Recently, our family has been listening to the soundtrack of Frozen. It’s my daughter’s favorite movie right now so we’re all into it 🙂 One of the songs (sung by princess Anna) is about a ball happening that night. Anna sings that she is excited to meet everyone. Then she adds, “What if I meet THE one?” My wife commented that people dismiss the idea of finding that one person to fall in love with. “But I think it’s spiritual,” she continued. “Our hearts are made for One, and God has put it in us to seek that One.” (Meaning Christ). I think she’s right. Below is one of my favorite hymns, “Be Thou My Vision.” It captures the singleness of heart, the “romantic” focus God has put in us. Being an Irish hymn, it is also apropos for yesterday’s remembrance of St. Patrick.
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
