Picture from “The Passion of the Christ,” a film by Mel Gibson.
“Not what I want but what You want” (Matt. 26:39).
I have been meditating on these words of Jesus. He said them to His Father just before being brutally executed.
I see in these words the entirety of walking with God in this life.
We can summarize human history in the words, “Not what You want but what I want, God.” Jesus reversed this; as a man, He loved God more than what He wanted.
This same Jesus lives in us. We can expect his heart in us to be the same toward His Father as it has always been. That being the case, we can expect our lives to ever more reflect Jesus’s words, “Not what I want but what You want, Father.”
Yes, Lord. Let it be so. Have Your way.
