I’ve got some family visiting so I’m going to take a 10-ish day break from blogging.  Please read past posts, booklets I’ve posted, or check out some of the awesome blogs I follow.

A word before I go: Yesterday, I was meditating on verses that talk about the blood of Jesus cleansing us from sin.  It struck me how easily (even glibly) those words can roll off our tongues.  Sometimes we recite it like a saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”  But Christ didn’t shed his blood so easily or glibly.

Peter tells us we weren’t redeemed from our empty way of life with perishable things like silver or gold, “but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of lamb without defect or blemish” (1 Peter 1:19).

How valuable is our own blood to us?  So valuable that we slap on bandages if even a drop or trickle tries to escape.  The life is in the blood (Lev. 17:11). There is nothing we safeguard so closely.

How much more should we value the blood of Christ?  The Life in His blood was one of such quality, such perfection.  Yet He poured it out as a thing to be wasted.

This is what I pray the Holy Spirit reminds me of next time I think of Jesus’s blood covering my sins.  Our multitude of sins are covered only because of the surpassing perfection and love of the Life laid down for us (1 Peter 4:8).
